Potty Training Consultations
Because potty learning isn’t one-size-fits-all and neither is your child.
At Mighty Roots Therapy, we know potty training or learning as we like to call it, can feel overwhelming, frustrating, and emotionally exhausting for both kids and parents. Our personalized potty training consultations are designed to look beyond surface behaviors and understand the full picture, helping families navigate potty learning with expert support, compassionate guidance, and strategies tailored to each child’s unique body, nervous system, and development. Our specialized pediatric team is here to reduce stress, build confidence, and help create a strong foundation for lifelong bowel and bladder health.
Our Approach:
Potty training is a learning process, not a race — and despite what social media may say, it usually takes far more than three days for children to truly build the body awareness, coordination, confidence, and consistency needed for lasting success. That’s completely normal, and we’re here to support your family every step of the way.
Our approach to potty training is gentle, child-led, and rooted in understanding the whole child. We look beyond rewards charts and rigid timelines to consider your child’s development, nervous system, sensory preferences, emotional readiness, bowel and bladder health, and physical coordination. Whether you are just starting potty learning or feeling stuck somewhere along the way, we are here to guide and support your family without shame, pressure, or fear-based strategies.
As pediatric pelvic health specialists, we help families understand what is happening underneath the surface — because potty training struggles are often connected to things like constipation, withholding, sensory sensitivities, interoception challenges, or pelvic floor coordination difficulties. Our goal is not just to “get kids potty trained,” but to help build healthy lifelong bowel and bladder habits while creating a more connected, confident experience for both children and parents.

Your Questions, Answered
-
Every child is different. Readiness is about more than age — we look at development, body awareness, sensory processing, communication, and emotional readiness to help determine the best timing for your child.
-
That’s incredibly common, and it does not mean you failed. Many children need a more individualized approach. We help uncover what may be contributing to the struggle and create a plan that feels supportive, realistic, and effective.
-
Yes! We frequently work with children who are fearful, resistant, withholding, hiding to poop, or having big emotional reactions around toileting. Sometimes we find those kiddos have more success coming in and working with us in the clinic.
-
Absolutely. Constipation is one of the most common underlying reasons potty training feels difficult or inconsistent. Even children who stool daily can still be constipated.
-
Accidents are normal! However if they are ongoing for a long period of time, then it often is a sign that something deeper is going on — not laziness or bad behavior. We help identify possible contributing factors like constipation, pelvic floor coordination challenges, sensory differences, or nervous system dysregulation and work with your child in the clinic if we need!
-
Our approach is child-led, supportive, and developmentally informed. We focus on helping children build confidence, body awareness, and healthy habits rather than using shame, pressure, or rigid timelines.

Initial Consultation
We begin with a 60-minute consultation to understand your child’s developmental stage, readiness, sensory preferences, bowel and bladder habits, and family goals. This allows us to create a supportive, individualized approach tailored specifically to your child.
Personalized Potty Training Plan
You’ll leave your consultation with a clear, practical potty training plan designed around your child’s unique needs and your family’s daily routines — because potty learning should feel realistic and sustainable, not overwhelming.
Ongoing Parent Coaching & Support
Potty training is a process, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. We offer continued guidance, troubleshooting support, and follow-up coaching to help you navigate setbacks, answer questions, and celebrate progress along the way.
Sensory & Behavioral Strategies
As pediatric occupational therapists, we bring a deep understanding of sensory processing, nervous system regulation, and behavior into the potty training process. We help families understand how sensory sensitivities, emotional responses, body awareness, and regulation can impact toileting success — and provide practical strategies to support your child with confidence and compassion.
